Jotafloor Screed

Product description

Jotafloor Screed is a high performance, trowel applied, three component, solvent free epoxy floor coating offering exceptional strength characteristics, resistance to a range of chemicals, and superior abrasion/wear properties. Generally applied at 5 mm thickness and above. (Seek advice from Jotun Technical Department)

Recommended use

The high strength impervious finish makes Jotafloor Screed ideal for heavy industrial areas such as:

Steelworks Engineering plants

Chemical production areas Oil refineries

Dairies

Also ideally suited where heavy traffic is expected or a durable non-slip finish is required. Jotafloor Screed may be overcoated with Jotafloor Topcoat or Jotafloor Coating if different colours are required. Jotafloor Screed exhibits very high bond strength and adhesion characteristics making it an ideal repair material for concrete and floor joint edges.

Surface preparation

All concrete damaged by exposure to chemicals, contaminated by any substance or unsound in any way, shall be removed to expose sound concrete.

Other surfaces

Concrete surface preparation by using dust free captive blasting units, grinding equipment, sand blasting or high pressure water jetting is critical to achieving the right surface profile prior to paint application. Contact your local Jotun office for more information.

The coating may be used on other substrates. Please contact your local Jotun office for more information.

Condition during application

The temperature of the substrate should be minimum 12°C (preferably 15°C)and at least 3°C above the dew point of the air, temperature and relative humidity measured in the vicinity of the substrate. The moisture in the concrete should not exceed 4 % (by weight). The coating should not be exposed to oil, chemicals or mechanical stress until fully cured.

Application methods

Other Nylon or steel trowel.

Application data

Mixing ratio (volume) 1.3:0.65:9.43 (25 kgs)

Mixing 1.3 litres Comp. A (base) to be mixed thoroughly with 0.65 litre Comp. B (curing agent) before adding 25 kg/9.43 litres graded aggregates. NO PART MIXING. Mix the resin and curing agent well before adding the aggregate. A forced action drill and appropriate mixing paddle should be used.

Pot life (23°C) 25 min. (Comp. A + Comp. B only), 40 min. (mix. with aggregate). (after poured on

the floor)

Cleaner Jotun Thinner No. 17 or fresh water.

Note It is essential to apply Jotafloor Screed onto Jotafloor Screed Primer whilst the primer is still "tacky". See separate Technical Data Sheet.

If the surface is porous or absorbant, such surface should be sealed with primer first. Once sealed well the recommended syatem can be applied

This product should be applied by a trained specialist. Jotun can offer a list of Licensed Applicators on request to your local Jotun office.

Drying time

Drying times are generally related to air circulation, temperature, film thickness and number of coats, and will be affected correspondingly. The figures given in the table are typical with:

  • Good ventilation (Outdoor exposure or free circulation of air)

  • Typical film thickness

  • One coat on top of inert substrate

The given data must be considered as guidelines only. The actual drying time/times before recoating may be shorter or longer, depending on film thickness, ventilation, humidity, underlying paint system, requirement for early handling and mechanical strength etc. A complete system can be described on a system sheet, where all parameters and special conditions could be included.
