Jotafloor SL Universal

Product description

Jotafloor SL Universal is a high performance, self smoothing, solvent free, three component, seamless epoxy coating capable of being applied at varying thicknesses to suit the final use of the floor. Jotafloor SL Universal offers excellent chemical, abrasion and impact resistance.

Recommended use

Jotafloor SL Universal has a wide range of application uses ranging from light industrial areas to floors requiring long lasting protection from abrasion and heavy loads. Typical areas include:

Warehouses Garages Dairies Factories Laboratories Aircraft hangers Plant rooms

Food manufacturing plants Kitchens

The product is designed to be applied at a minimum thickness of 800 microns up to 5 mm. Greater thicknesses can be achieved but advice should be sought from your local Jotun Technical Department.

Surface preparation

All concrete damaged by exposure to chemicals, contaminated by any substance or unsound in any way, shall be removed to expose sound concrete.

Coated surfaces

Clean, dry and undamaged compatible primer. Contact your local Jotun office for more information.

Other surfaces

Concrete surface preparation by using dust free captive blasting units, grinding equipment, sand blasting or high pressure water jetting is critical to achieving the right surface profile prior to paint application. Contact your local Jotun office for more information.

The coating may be used on other substrates. Please contact your local Jotun office for more information.

Condition during application

The temperature of the substrate should be minimum 10°C and at least 3°C above the dew point of the air, temperature and relative humidity measured in the vicinity of the substrate. The moisture content in the concrete should not exceed 4 % (by weight). The coating should not be exposed to oil, chemicals or mechanical stress until fully cured.

Application methods

Other For thicknesses from 1.5 mm to 5 mm use a steel trowel or height adjustable steel spreader. For thicknesses from 800 microns to 1.5 mm the material should be spread out onto the floor using a flat edged trowel or similar tool and finished with a good quality short hair mohair roller. The minimum thickness range will be easier to apply if the amount of silica flour is slightly reduced (contact your local Jotun office for assistance). Once the desired film thickness is achieved, it is very important to roll the coatings with a spiker roller. This will help to avoid air bubbles and remove trowel marks.

Application data

Mixing ratio (volume) 7,5 l Comp. A (base) to be mixed thoroughly with 3,75 l Comp. B (curing agent)

and then add 6,75 l silica flour. NO PART MIXING

Mixing Mix the resin and curing agent well before adding the silica flour. Use a slow speed drill and mixing paddle. Mix the three components in the container supplied. Pour the full contents of the mixed material on to the floor immediately after mixing is completed.

Pot life (23°C) Jotafloor SL Universal Comp. B (20) 10 min. (30 min. after poured on to the floor).

Jotafloor SL Universal Comp. B (40) 20 min. (45 min. after poured on to the floor).

Drying time

Drying times are generally related to air circulation, temperature, film thickness and number of coats, and will be affected correspondingly. The figures given in the table are typical with:

  • Good ventilation (Outdoor exposure or free circulation of air)

  • Typical film thickness

  • One coat on top of inert substrate

1. The surface should be free from chalking and contamination prior to application. If the maximum dry to recoat time is exceeded, please contact Jotun for advice.

The given data must be considered as guidelines only. The actual drying time/times before recoating may be shorter or longer, depending on film thickness, ventilation, humidity, underlying paint system, requirement for early handling and mechanical strength etc. A complete system can be described on a system sheet, where all parameters and special conditions could be included.
